WHY IS IRON LEVEL IMPORTANT?
Iron deficiency anaemia is a common global public health problem. Women of childbearing age and pregnant women are some of the groups who are at particular risk.
Common symptoms such of iron deficiency include headaches, tiredness, lack of energy, palpitations and hair loss which can be easily confused with other conditions.
Therefore, if you have any of these symptoms, it is important to get tested for your iron levels to establish if you have a deficiency which may be contributing to the symptoms.
WHAT IS THE SELFCHECK IRON LEVEL TEST?
This test is designed to detect the levels of iron in your blood and produce a clear visual result in minutes.
Measurements of biomarkers in the blood, such as ferritin, are a simple and more reliable indicator of iron deficiency anaemia compared with the traditional full blood count (FBC).
HOW AND WHEN DO I PERFORM THIS TEST?
The test can be used at any time of the day, however it should not be performed if you are feeling ill or suffering from acute inflammation or have a spleen or liver injury.
Please read instructions enclosed within the product on how to perform the test and get results. Results can be seen within 10 minutes of performing the test, with the test results remaining
reliable for up to 15 minutes after.
IS IT EASY TO READ THE RESULT?
It is very simple to read the result:
- TWO lines in the result window is a normal result.
- ONE line shows iron deficiency.
WHAT IS THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION FOLLOWING AN IRON DEFICIENT RESULT?
If you get a result indicating likelihood of iron deficiency you should make an appointment to see your GP and let them know you have low iron levels following a selfcheck iron level test kit.
The GP may advise upon further investigations, followed by treatment (where necessary).
